Rio Olympics Medal Table: Team USA Finishes First on the Chart with 121 Medals

Out of 207 nations that participated in the 2016 Games, 78 reached the podium to collect silverware while the USA topped the Rio Olympics Medal Table.

USA recorded their most successful ‘away’ Games by finishing first on the Rio Olympics medal table with 121 in total, including 46 gold. In the 32nd edition of the Olympics, no other nation could match USA, with Great Britain coming in second with 67 medals (27 gold) and China clinching third spot on the Rio Olympics medal table with 70 medals (26 gold).

After them came 4) Russia (56 total – 19 gold), 5) Germany (42 total – 17 gold), 6) Japan (41 total – 12 gold), 7) France (42 total – 10 gold), 8) Republic of Korea (21 total – 9 gold), 9) Italy (total 28 – 8 gold) and 10) Australia (29 total – 8 gold).

Thomas Bach, the chief of the IOC (International Olympics Committee), commented, “These were a marvellous Olympics, in a marvellous city. Over the last 16 days a united Brazil inspired the world, in difficult times for all of us, with its irresistible joy for life.”

“These Games demonstrated that diversity is an enrichment for everyone. These Games were a celebration of diversity. They are leaving a unique legacy for many generations to come. History will talk about a Rio before and a much better Rio after these Games,” said Bach.

Great Britain finished second on the Rio Olympics medal table, but they’ll be looking to usurp USA in the 33rd edition of the summer Olympics four years from now in Tokyo 2020.

Bet365 Sports offered a range of markets on the Rio Olympics, but with the Games now officially over, punters will be looking to place wagers on other sporting events. Besides the Olympics this summer, we also had a chance to follow some great football action, thanks to Euro 2016 in France and Copa American in the USA.

But now with all those events concluded, punters will be looking to get back to supporting their local clubs all across Europe. The Premier League has already gone through two rounds, with Man City, Man United, Hull City and Chelsea all tied on six points.
