Unibet In-Play Betting System Becomes Available in Australia

Australia online betting news released, Unibet in-play betting in Australia is now available. The Malta-based online betting operator has launched its Unibet in-play betting system in Australia, where live betting via the internet is still banned.

Basically, Australia’s 2001 Interactive Gambling Act (IGA) allows only remote in-play wagering via the telephone. Back in 2014, the massively expanding company seemed to understand the illegality of in-play betting in Australia. As they said in a report, Unibet provides betting products to the market, however in Australia, live betting is banned.

The company considers itself as a leading live betting business and actually they have a good reason to think that. In 2015 they were labelled as the in-play sports operator of the year at London’s International Gaming Awards.

As it was established earlier, betting on live events must be taken via phone instead of the internet. Despite these strict rules, some foreign based operators permitted operating in Australia found a loophole within the current laws. They started to use voice-over-internet protocol technology which means placing a bet consists of two steps; after clicking on a button, the bet is confirmed via an automated phone call.

The Australian website of the live betting operator has recently announced that punters can use Unibet in play betting. The system is available from Chrome and Firefox, however a new Unibet app is promised to operate soon.

Unibet In Play Betting System and the Government’s Response

In parallel with the fresh Unibet in-play betting system in Australia, the minister of Federal Human Services plans to introduce a ban on in play betting. Moreover, the minister, Alan Tudge is determined to block offshore bookmakers offering betting products to the citizens.

He claimed in a conference that based on estimations, the rate of problem gambling regarding online gamblers are higher (2.7 %) compared to the other form of gamblers (0.9%). He also mentioned that nowadays, due to the technological developments, people can bet anywhere and anytime they want.
