The freshest information related to sport sponsorships is the big news about Nike Drops Manny Pacquiao due to his homophobic comments. The professional boxer is famous for winning ten world titles. He was the second best paid athlete in 2015. Beside these, he participated in basketball, business, acting and politics. Back in 2010 he was elected to the House of Representatives in Philippines.

He is a successful sportsman apparently. However, he is not always as clever as he is expected to be. He compared homosexuals to animals. This comment costed him a huge sponsorship deal with Nike. The giant sportswear company stated that they found the boxer’s words ‘abhorrent’ and they were opposed to any kind of discrimination.

To make matters worse, Pacquiao tried to apologize via social media for what he said. He added that he is still against same-sex marriages based on Christian principles of the Bible. After that, he ended like a savior saying he will pray all of the people he hurt.

Bob Arum, the star’s boxing promoter has also agreed to Nike’s decision.

Los Angeles Lakers’s Kobe Bryant lost sponsorship only partially in 2004. After a woman accused him of sexual assault, McDonald’s didn’t renew his three-year long endorsement contract. Despite the accusations, Sprite and Nike remained sponsors henceforward. (The charges were dropped by authorities owing to a mutual agreement with the accuser.)

Gillette, Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade and Tag Heuer ended sponsorship deals with the golf (beat…) player. Nike also gave a warning sign by slashing the amount of the pre-agreed deal.

The Baltimore Ravens’s professional American football player showed his strength to the world by beating his fiancee. The incident took place in a casino lift, from where he dragged the poor, unconscious lady. In 2014 he was arrested due to his behavior. His contract with the Ravens was terminated.
