Samuel Eto’o Staying Put in Antalya, Insisting Amkar Shirt Was ‘Just a Gift’ for His Birthday

Former Barcelona and Inter Milan star Samuel Eto’o appears to have been involved in a PR stunt with Russian club FC Amkar Perm, ahead of his 36th birthday.

Samuel Eto’o has poured cold water on any speculation regarding a transfer away from Antalyaspor, stating on his Instagram the picture of him holding the Amkar shirt with his name (in Cyrillic) and the number ‘36’ (his soon-to-be age on March 10) on the back is “just a gift” for his birthday.

His most notable club spells were with Barcelona and Inter Milan, where he won a three La Liga crowns and one Serie A title, respectively. Additionally, Samuel Eto’o was crowned champion of Europe twice with Barcelona (2006 and 2009) and once with Inter (2010), making him one of the select players to have won the coveted trophy back-to-back and with different clubs.

DailyMail seems to have once again proven why they’re often dubbed the ‘DailyFail’ after claiming that Eto’o has officially signed for the Russian club. “Samuel Eto’o looks set to extend his stay in the professional game after joining Russian Premier League side Amkar on a short-term deal,” DailyMail reports.

They go on to continue by inaccurately claiming that he spent three years with once-ambitious Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, when in fact it was only two years (August 2011 – August 2013), before he moved to Chelsea for a one-year spell.

According to DailyFail, oooops, sorry, I meant DailyMail, “It will be the second time Eto’o has played in the Russian top flight after his three-year spell with Anzhi Makhachkala between 2011 and 2014.” (Ummm, no, it won’t!)

Ignoring the fact that they got the news of another Samuel Eto’o transfer completely wrong, how in the world did they find out about the length of his contract being ‘a short-term deal’??? We’re guessing they forgot to insert the infamous line ‘according to inside reports…’ that they’re already accustomed to when they lack a credible source. A fine example of top-notch journalism, this is. (We hope you understand the sarcasm.)

Now, on the other hand, Samuel Eto’o receiving a shirt from Amkar may have been a form of courtship, in hopes of potentially signing the Cameroonian at a future date, once his contract with Antalyaspor comes to an end. But this is just a guess from us at Betting Herald, we’re not making official statements based on ‘inside reports.’ However, once news breaks out about Samuel Eto’o’s move away from Antalya Arena, make sure to visit our page for the latest sportsbetting news based on real, credible sources. FC Amkar have also confirmed on their Twitter account the shirt was just meant to be a present for the striker, who has been with Antalyaspor since the summer of 2015 – his 11th club of his illustrious career that has seen him win countless domestic titles and three Champions League trophies.

“The 36-year-old remains on sunny shores. Amkar didn’t sign the (former) Dagenstan forward, Eto’o wasn’t bought by the Perm club.”Amkar commented.
