Dimitri Payet assured the fans that won’t be going nowhere, despite receiving lots of interest from other sides following his impressive debut season with West Ham and his fine performances at the Euros with France where he scored 3 goals and helped their reach the final.

“I’ve heard about all the interest and I’m flattered. But I love West Ham,” stressed the 29-year-old when speaking to The Sun. “We had a fantastic season and I can’t wait to play in the Olympic Stadium. I’m 100 per cent staying at West Ham, I love the club. I can tell the Hammers fans that.”

Payet joined West Ham from Marseille last summer in a deal believed to be worth €15 million, according to Transfermarkt. Under Hammers boss Slaven Bilic, the Frenchman made a total of 30 appearances in the Premier League finding the net on 9 occasions, while in total he’s played 38 games and scored 12 in the 2015-16 season.

Considering the rather modest transfer fee paid for him a year ago, the club could cash in on him now while he’s in demand and buy other recruits that are younger than Payet, who will turn 30 in March next year. However, David Sullivan, the joint-chairman of the club, reiterated the attacking midfielder is not for sale as they’ve just recently given him a new contract, while also stressing that Payet could be offered yet another deal at Christmas this year, should he continue to impress for the East London club.

“He’s under contract. There might be six weeks of wiliness when he bangs the table. But if you believe what he says, he wants to stay,” Sullivan said. “We’ve given him a new contract. If he’s still doing what he’s doing now at Christmas or the end of the season we might give him another new contract.”

West Ham had an impressive run last season as they finished 7th on the table with 62 points that granted them a spot in the third qualifying round of the Europa League. And by keeping Payet, they’ve announced they’re not a selling club (for now at least), which could also aid their ambitions of a greater Premier League finish next season, if they manage to get in a few more quality players to complement the Frenchman.

West Ham open their Premier League campaign against Chelsea (August 15) at Stanford Bridge, with online sportsbook Betway giving the Blues favourite odds 1.61 (8/13). The Hammers are deemed heavy underdogs 6.00 (5/1) for the match, despite finishing three places above Chelsea the previous season, while a draw between the two stands at 3.80 (14/5).
