Kasper Schmeichel Insists Leicester City Want to “Finish the Season on a High”

Leicester’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel warns fans the Premier League is not over yet, regardless that they hold a seven point advantage at the top of the table.

Leicester’s biggest rival for the Premier League title at this stage is Tottenham Hotspur, who are in second place with 65 points. The Foxes are enjoying a lead that is still susceptible to change, as they prepare for the final push in the season. “We’ve achieved nothing in our eyes yet, we want to finish the season on a high and our next game is vital for us,” said the Danish international.

According to Sky Sports, Kasper Schmeichel has stressed that clean sheets are among the most fundamental aspects in clinching victories. “Clean sheets are a foundation for winning games and that’s by no means just down to me, it’s down to the whole team and the way we defend,” said the 29-year-old. “Right from the top to the back two. It’s a great platform, but wins are more important.”

So far this season, Kasper Schmeichel has played a total of 33 games (31 in the Premier League and 2 in the FA Cup), out of which he has recorded a whopping 14 clean sheets, making him one of the best goalkeepers in the English top flight. In terms of percentages, he’s 7th on the list with a 42.42% clean sheet average, but that’s simply because other goalies have played less games that effectively granted them a higher average.

Besides stressing the importance of clean sheets, Kasper Schmeichel also highlighted the significance of collective effort. “I don’t like to single out just the back four because it has been a team effort, but you can never fault these guys because they give 100 per cent, they are honest lads and throw their bodies in front of anything and any mistakes are made in this team through honesty and not laziness,” said the 1.89m tall goalkeeper.

Kasper Schmeichel will be on goal for The Foxes again this weekend as they aim to continue their title challenge against Slaven Bilic’s West Ham. BetVictor Sports has outlined them as the favourites (obviously) to collect all three points from the game 1.91 (10/11). Their home record stands at 10 wins, 5 draws and only 1 loss, while their form at the King Power Stadium is equally impressive, having won five of their last 6 home games.

West Ham are the underdogs 4.3 (33/10) heading into the match, so the most that they can hope to achieve is a draw 3.7 (27/10). They’ve performed brilliantly this season, although not as well as Leicester City. Currently, The Hammers sit in 6th position with 52 points to their name, which is quote astonishing considering their limited budget in the transfer market. But in recent games they seem to have hit a slump recording three draws in all of their last three games.
